Thirty-three members of the Rice Chorus are currently in Japan representing our school community at an international choir competition!
“This trip is truly an experience of a lifetime. It represents everything we’ve been working toward as we continue to grow and strengthen the music department year after year.” - Music Director Kevin Ginter, 2025 Outstanding Educator
This remarkable opportunity allows our students to travel abroad and immerse themselves in a new culture. Over the course of the nine-day journey, they will explore multiple regions of Japan, experiencing breathtaking scenery and iconic landmarks such as Hiroshima, Shrines and Temples in Kyoto and the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. We’re so thankful to give this experience to our students.
About the Competition:
At the competition, they're performing at the Kobe Bunka Hall, competing in the Youth Choir Category against groups from Indonesia, Japan, and The Czech Republic, and are performing four pieces that they’ve rehearsed extensively throughout the first semester. In total there are 25 choirs from 14 different countries competing in seven categories. They're also performing in the Friendship Concert, and Pray From Kobe Concert commemorating the 1995 earthquake that destroyed parts of the city. They're also making new connections through music with a performance at the Gyosei International School in Tokyo.
1/22/26 - The Results: The choir received the Silver Diploma Award- Level 10. For background, you can receive no diploma, a bronze diploma level 1-10, silver diploma 1-10, or gold 1-10. Being one point away from a gold diploma in our first ever international choir competition is a HUGE achievement.
We're Proud to Support The Arts:
