Back to School Night

Experience a "day in the life" of your child when they are at Rice, hear about what your child will be learning, and meet their teachers. 

• 5-5:30 - Parent Mixer in the cafeteria with seltzers and appetizers
• 5:30 - 7:30pm - walk through your student's schedule

Please be sure you can access your student's schedule via the  Also, this is meant to be a quick overview of what your student will be learning in class this year, we can't get into the specifics of individual student performance.

From the time you come through the doors that evening, Associate Principal Dan Routhier and Dean of Students Mike Mazzella will be there to greet you (as they always greet our students) at the gym lobby.  Please be sure to log on to the MyRice portal prior to this event so you can follow your child's schedule and you can visit their classrooms. Starting off the evening, Mr. Routhier will provide a brief welcome and send you on your way to meet the teachers.  View the bell schedule.

There will be refreshments in the cafeteria between 5pm-5:30pm, allowing parents time to meet other parents and staff members.  Parents may also speak with the guidance department during the study hall time on their schedules, who can be found in the Library. 

This evening is intended to showcase the classroom and vision for the year.  Teachers will not be able to discuss your individual student(s) questions.  For such conversations: 

• Freshmen parent/teacher conferences will take place on October 15th
• General parent/teacher conferences will take place on November 13th. 
• As always, teachers are happy to schedule a separate time to meet.
