I choose to work at Rice because: Rice has a great reputation in the community. It is known to be a place of rigorous academics as well as a place students can develop strong core values of faith, service, and being an active member of the community. I fully embrace the mission of this school and I'm excited to be at a Catholic school again, my personal education background has it's roots in Catholic education. I am also excited to be in Vermont because it is a lifetime dream! I love the outdoors: hiking, tennis, snowboarding and skiing.
What is your favorite thing about your job? Spending time with students. I started my career as a teacher and I thoroughly enjoyed being in the classroom. As I grew into leadership, I never lost touch with the student body; instead, I could think about things from their perspective. At Rice, my first priority is to actively build relationships with students and staff and be accessible. I also know what it’s like to be a teacher, and as a leader, I know that supporting our teaching faculty allows the students to get the most out of their education.
If you had an unexpected afternoon off, what would you do with your time? Hiking. Tennis. Snowboarding. Spend time with my kids – maybe all of the above!
Best vacation/trip you’ve ever been on: Scuba Diving trip off the coast of Komodo, Indonesia.
Favorite Rice tradition or event: I'll tell you at the end of this year! I'm looking forward to Stunt Nite, sporting events, and community building events.
Favorite Rice Sports Team to watch: I expect it'll be Girls' Soccer or Boys' Tennis
Favorite Professional Sports Team or Athlete: Boston Celtics and Larry Bird
If a prospective family asked you “why should I send my student to Rice,” what would you say? From what I’m seeing so far, I'd recommend Rice because of the close-knit family environment that this school offers. There's a strong sense of inclusivity and being a part of something - not every school has that. I also think students will be best supported by teachers in a smaller school environment.
