I enjoy teaching English because: I enjoy teaching English because I like helping students learn how to communicate their ideas more effectively and exploring some of life’s big questions through the humanities.
I choose to teach at Rice because: I love being Catholic, and I love being able to pray and share my faith with students.
What is your favorite thing about your job? The community.
If you had an unexpected afternoon off, what would you do with your time? Honestly, since I have four kids, probably housework! But for free leisure time, I’d love to go hiking or play something as a family. If I was by myself, read a book!
Best vacation/trip you’ve ever been on: My honeymoon spent traveling in Italy. But taking a group of students to Greece and Italy was an awesome experience!
Favorite tradition/fieldtrip/project you do in your classroom each school year: Poetry Out Loud
Favorite Rice tradition or event: I love being a Eucharistic minister at Mass. It’s incredibly moving to be able to give students communion or a blessing.
Favorite Rice Sports Team to watch: Basketball
If a prospective family asked you “why should I send my student to Rice,” what would you say? We know our students. We are small enough that no student can slip through the cracks but offer enough that everyone can participate in something they love. We know what’s happening in each other’s classes and build on it.
