• M.A. in History from the University of Vermont
• Additional coursework from the Teacher Apprenticeship Program at Champlain College
• Mr. Colgrove has been teaching for about four years, including teaching students an introductory Biblical Greek course and students coming to the United States who
  are learning English.
• Joined Rice in 2026

Get to Know Him:

I enjoy teaching history because: when someone knows even a little bit more about the
history of the world around us, they begin to see how well connected we are to those who
came before.

I choose to teach at Rice because: because of the spirit of excellence that is baked into the character of our school life. I am excited to witness how this spirit will be visible both inside and outside of the classroom.

What is your favorite thing about your job?  I deeply enjoy that moment when a student
feels a sense of accomplishment over their work, realizing that they have actually internalized
the learning they have done.

If you had an unexpected afternoon off, what would you do with your time?
Provided the right weather, you would catch me searching through the woods as I look for my lost golf ball. When I’m not on the course, you would find me going for a drive or playing some new board game.

Best vacation/trip you’ve ever been on:
Having been an Italophile for many years, I was thrilled to visit Rome and Florence for my recent honeymoon. Nothing can compare to the blue waters of the Mediterranean or the pastel greens of the Tuscan countryside outside of the medieval city of San Gimignano.

Favorite tradition/field trip/project you do in your classroom each school year:
I look forward to creating new traditions and routines with my students this upcoming year.

Favorite Rice Sports Team to watch:  I look forward to baseball season, even though it
seems far off now.

Favorite Professional Sports Team or Athlete? I’ve been a Boston Red Sox fan my whole life. Currently, I enjoy watching Aroldis Chapman pitch, but in previous years I loved watching Big
Papi, David Ortiz, swing the bat.
