I choose to work at Rice because: I believe in Rice's mission of helping each student achieve their God-given potential. I have 2 boys - I want them to go to a school where their potential is seen, challenged, and nurtured by their teachers (and where they can receive a solid education that will set them up for success in college.)
What is your favorite thing about your job? The students! It's so fun to see their accomplishments, hear what they're passionate about, and watch them grow. Rice really is a special place and I feel honored to use my professional talents for an organization I truly care about. My colleagues at Rice are outstanding.
If you had an unexpected afternoon off, what would you do with your time? Play tennis. Garden. Go skiing. Call a friend. Fight the urge to clean my house - ha ha! I never have trouble filling my time!
Best vacation/trip you’ve ever been on: Turks & Caicos for a week of swimming, tennis and sitting on the beach. It is the most beautiful water I have ever seen.
Favorite tradition/field trip/project you do each school year:
Field trip: I love to take students outside and I pack in as many field trips as possible to the digital photography class - Oakledge, Shelburne Farms, Potash Brook - they're all really fun and highly enriching for the students.
Events: I really enjoy the admission events that give prospective families the chance to talk to current parents. Those conversations are what convinced me that Rice is the place for my kids.
Favorite Rice tradition or event: I really enjoy the Pep Rallies and Playoff Games - it's so fun to see the students come together, cheer each other on, and have a blast.
Favorite Rice Sports Team to watch: Basketball, Hockey, Tennis, - all of them, I love sports!
Favorite Professional Sports Team or Athlete: Well, he's not a professional, but my husband played tennis in college and I love to watch him compete. Second: Roger Federer because he makes everything look effortless and amazing.
If a prospective family asked you “why should I send my student to Rice”? What would you say?
Rice offers a solid education that prepares students well for life after high school. It's not perfect, no place is. But what I observe working at Rice is that the teachers are truly invested in helping students succeed and because it's a smaller school, students do get more attention and more feedback which is important for academic growth. I also have the privilege of getting to know the seniors and I feel on the whole, the level of professionalism, confidence, and integrity a Rice graduate possesses is a cut above. From the student perspective, the students have a lot of opportunities: field trips, sports, schoolwide events - that they probably wouldn't have elsewhere.
