What is your favorite thing about your job?
Working as a school librarian is incredibly rewarding, especially when it comes to engaging with students. You have the chance to inspire a love of reading, support their academic growth, and help them develop critical thinking and research skills that will benefit them for life.
High school students also contribute to the library's sense of community by participating in events, sharing recommendations, and even helping with library operations.. Their active involvement not only enhances the library's offerings but also ensures it remains a vibrant hub of learning and connection within the school.
If you had an unexpected afternoon off, what would you do with your time?
I would grab a friend and hike Mount Philo, and then stop by Cookie Love for a creemee!
Best vacation/trip you’ve ever been on:
We went on a family trip to Portugal and it was an unforgettable experience! My favorite part was visiting the Berlengas Islands which are a protected nature preserve along the Portuguese coast.
Favorite Rice Sports Team to watch: basketball, baseball and the Rice Drumline! I have a student in the class of ‘28, I love spending lots of time on the sidelines, watching the games, and talking with other parents!
If a prospective family asked you “why should I send my student to Rice”? What would you say? (We’d love to know your genuine answer – no marketing!)
The feeling of community along with how students are challenged but also seen and supported has been an incredible feeling as both a new faculty member and Rice parent!
